Although Sabrina Fuentes is about to graduate from Goldsmiths University, London, the singer and her band, Pretty Sick, are New Yorkers through and through. Formed when Fuentes was just 13, along with her friends Ella Moore and Eva Kaufman, Pretty Sick went on to play New York’s best DIY venues while all three were still in high school. Now made up of bassist Orazio Argentero, guitarist Wade Oates and drummer Austin Williamson (of Onyx Collective), Pretty Sick have built a signature sound of grunge-rock chronicling the highs and lows of coming of age that caught the eye of indie label Dirty Hit (home to Dazed 100 alum Beabadoobee).
Following their critically acclaimed 2020 EP, Deep Divine – their debut with Dirty Hit – the band has spent lockdown working on their upcoming release, Comedown, out June 2021. While still containing Pretty Sick’s signature bite and pop energy, the EP tackles a darker mood and grittier themes than their first release, evidenced by their hospital-themed music video release, “Bet My Blood”. Among Fuentes’ career highs – besides modelling for the likes of Converse and Opening Ceremony and featuring on the cover of Apartamento magazine shot by Frank Lebon – are the live shows they’ve been able to play around the world, more of which, hopefully (for the sake of their fans as much as the band), are just on the horizon.
